CBAM SUPPORT
Dear business relation,
The “Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)” has come into effect as of October 1, 2023. Via earlier newsletters we informed you about this. We understand that a lot of questions still arise on this subject and we want to give you some further details regarding Seacon’s part in your logistics chain.
What is CBAM:
In order to avoid unfair competition, a price-adjustment is set on the CO2 emissions released during the production of certain goods imported from non-EU countries. CBAM is a European regulation and part of the ‘Fit for 55’ package where the importer is responsible to report about the imported goods. From October 1, 2023, a report on a quarterly basis will apply and is the start of a transition period until January 1, 2026 where more strict rules will apply. At this moment, this only applies to a limited number of goods, such as steel, electricity, chemicals, iron, aluminum, cement and fertilizers. The complete list with Nomenclature codes is available in attachment 1. If no correct or timely report is filed, you may be fined. For any details about the reporting, please see the guiding websites and attachments mentioned below.
At last, we wish to note that the reporting is the responsibility of the importer. In the next few years, Seacon Logistics wants to be your partner in this area as we see this new process to be an integral part of the whole Supply Chain. We would gladly discuss with you, how we may support you in the future.
