Reisverslag Venlo – Lesbos 2024
Iconic transport of Cruyff Court from Venlo to Lesbos
Seacon Logistics has once again transported a Cruyff Court to Lesbos, in partnership with the Johan Cruyff Foundation and with support from 'Nationale Postcode Loterij ' members (Dutch Postcode Lottery). This project provides a vital contribution to improving the quality of life of the local community, who have been deeply affected by the accommodation of refugees on the island. The sports field functions as a safe and supportive place for young people, in terms of social connection, participation, mental health and personal development.
About the journey
Drivers Werner Bloemen (Greece export planner at Seacon) and Frans Cremers (owner of Cremers Coolcare - Seacon transport partner) were responsible for this special transport.
The route took them through Germany, Austria, Italy and Greece. The final leg of the journey was the ferry crossing to Lesbos. On the way, the drivers enjoyed the incredible scenery provided by the Alps, the Adriatic coastline and the Rion-Antirion Bridge in Greece.
The Cruyff Court was transported using a specially designed Seacon/Cruyff trailer. The striking and iconic branding truly caught the eye while on the road.
Werner and Frans can happily reflect on this successful adventure; it has ensured that local residents will soon have a safe place to play sport and meet up.
The drivers reflect
Werner Bloemen and Frans Cremers have successfully delivered the Cruyff Court. What was their experience like during this incredible journey? In this vlog, they look back on their drive from Venlo to Lesbos.
Summary vlog: The journey went smoothly and without any problems. Thanks to quiet roads, we made good progress and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Within one day, we drove from Venlo to Ancona, where we took the ferry to Igoumenitsa. Once in Greece, we continued driving for another three hours to Mesolongi. From there, we traveled onward to Piraeus, where we boarded the night ferry to Lesbos.
Unfortunately, we had little time on Lesbos. After unloading the Cruyff Court, we received a warm welcome from Movement on the Ground. What made this journey so special was the genuine interest from the people we met along the way in the Cruyff/Seacon trailer and the warmth and appreciation we received when we explained the purpose of the project.
